How to set up a private network on VMware workstation pro 2017?

 

Please forgive me if this is an immature question.

I have set up a virtual machine running windows 8 and a virtual machine running windows server 2016 datacenter.
I connected the windows 8 virtual machine to VMnet8(NAT) and then I used the same virtual machine "windows 8"  to go to the browsers to try to connect to the network and it worked. So have I set up a private network correctly? and if not please give me suggestions and instructions. Thank you very much!

What do you mean by “private”?

What do you want the VM OS to be able to communicate with, and what do you not want it to communicate with?
