How to properly update VMware??

Am I not very bright or something but how does one use the Player > Help > Software Updates?? Whenever I try I have to use Task Manager to stop the vmware.exe process. Why have a feature where to update you need to open the app but then cant update because you have the app open??

I've personally never understood the feature there.  Half the time it doesn't work, and then the user is stuck, not knowing where the downloaded file is to attempt to retry.  Just go to VMware's site and download the desired installer version you want.  And run it.
