Hi,
I spend almost an hours trying to understand how to install the vmscsi driver (asked when upgrading a XP Pro VM to Vista Business. Here is what I did, if anyone else needs the same explanation.
The download is found in the download page (drivers tab), currently : http://download3.vmware.com/software/vmscsi-1.2.0.4.flp
Once downloaded :
\- start the XP VM
\- choose to connect the A: drive to an image
-> browse to the vmscsi-1.2.0.4.flp file
\- when asked by Vista setup browse to the A: drive
\- validate the choice of the SCSI driver found on A:
Setup will go on ...
Hope this helps
Had similar problems --But what if you don't have an "A" drive. --Anyway round that .
Cheers

Use Virtual Machine Configuration editor and add a floppy drive.
While starting a virtual machine VMware says, that XP do not support the Buslogic SCSI drivvers an i should install it within the virtual machine. Have assignet the floppy drive a: to the driver file (vmscsi-1.2.0.4.flp).
And now?
How to install the driver?
Have tried to "update" the scsi driver via device manager, but WinXP SP 2 told me, that no "update" or "newer" driver could be found on Drive A:
I tried to follow recipe below to no avail.
I have VMWARE Workstation 6.0 for linux on CD/DVD and seek install Windows XP Pro guest OS. I see the message that neither BUSLogic or LSI SCSI driver are supported for XP during start of guest OS install try.
My setup is:
Memory 1024 MB
Processors 1
Hard Disk (SCSI 0:0) 5.0 GB (Persistent)
CD-ROM (IDE 1:0) Auto Detect
Floppy Auto Detect
Ethernet NAT
USB Controller Present
Sound Adapter Auto Detect
Display Auto Detect
file:///usr/lib/vmware/help-guestinstall/guestos_winxp.htm notes suggest:
" 3. If you are using the virtual BusLogic SCSI driver downloaded from
the VMware Web site or the LSI Logic SCSI driver downloaded from the
LSI Logic Web site, you must take some special steps at this point in
the installation process. As the Windows XP installer loads, press the
F6 key. This allows you to select the additional SCSI driver required
for installation. Press S to specify the additional driver. After you
specify the SCSI driver, press Enter to continue with setup."
But F6 does not seem to be recognized during install boot.
Making my default set up "auto detect" floppy into an image pointing to XXX/vmscsi-1.2.0.4.flp was tried. I saw no way to validate it as SCSI. During the ensuing XP install attempt I get message about NTLP (or something like that) is not present.
My situation is not related to Vista.
Any pointers by anyone.
{Several book and wed page notes say there are install instructions at the download site for vmscsi-1.2.0.4.flp. But that is not true. It would be nice if it was true though.}
How to locate and install SCSI Disk Drivers using vmscsi-<x.x.x.x>.flp in VMware. These directions will allow the installation of Windows 7 over an existing installation of Windows XP. It works for different variations of the Windows XP Product matched to the Windows 7 Product. Installing this driver is absolutely necessary if you are using a Windows 7 Upgrade Disk. Can't be done otherwise.
