How to access a guest vm from the LAN?

Hello,

I am trying to find out how I can achieve the following:

I am running vmware workstation 7 on a laptop. the laptop is part of a lan.

I am running a vm on that laptop hosting a web application. this application can be accessed through a browser with the caveat that one MUST use a fully qualified hostname in the URL. Using an IP address in the URL will not work because the application is looking for the domain string in the URL.

How do I have to configure the networking on the vm and on my laptop to be able to access the application on the vm from my laptop?

Some of the examples I have seen use NAT and port forwarding but that will not work in my case because as I stated the URL that must be presented to the application must have a fully qualified hostname in it.

There are additional machines on my LAN. What do I have to configure on them to be able to access the application on the vm on my laptop?

Thanks for any help

Configure your VM to use Bridged networking.  That will operate exactly as if it were another physical computer on the LAN.

The rest of the configuration should be done in the guest VM's OS, exactly as if it were a physical PC.
