How can I get the VM NIC to connect at 1000 like the host NIC does?

I had to rescue a Windows 2000 Server. I went with bridged networking to give it back it's own IP on the network. However, the NIC driver it wants to use is different than the host NIC, and will only run at 10 mbps instead of a 1000. If I force install the correct driver through Device Manager, it doesn't work. How can I get the 1000 mbps back?

When you do a P2V the physical hardware is nonexistent in the VM so force installing drivers for a piece of physical hardware that no longer exists in the VM will get you nowhere.

You need to install VMware Tools in order to increase the speed of the virtual network adapter.

I have VMware tools installed. I selected 100 mbps, because that's all that driver will give me, but the status screen still shows 10. I disabled aind re-enabled it to see if it would connect at 100 and it will not.
