Guest OS can't connect to my network / the internet

Hey

I am experiencing a problem where my guest os can't connect to my network/lan and therefore neither the internet.

My setup is this:

VMWare Workstation 5.5.1

Host OS: Windows XP Pro SP2

Guest OS: Debian "etch" 4.0

The virtual machine with Debian (the guest os) is using Bridged Network[/b] and it has been assigned IP, subnet, standard gateway and DNS manually since I have disabled my routers DHCP function.

Normally this works just fine- I install VMWare Workstation, leave all preferences as default, create a typical vm with bridged network, install some OS (winxp, debian, ubunto, server 2003 what ever), assign IP/subnet/gateway/DNS and that makes me able to connect to my network (e.g. shares) and the internet.

But after starting up my physical and virtual machines today I can't connect to my network or the internet anymore. I can't ping computers on my network and they can't ping the virtual machine.

I have tried to remove VMWare Workstation, delete all folders containing settings (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\VMWare\) and then reinstall but I doesn't solve the problem.

Any ideas of what might have caused this and how to solve the problem? Maybe you could suggest some settings to take a closer look at ect.

Thanks for you help

Post the output from " ipconfig /all " from your Windows host.

Post the output from " ifconfig -a " from your Linux guest.

Post the .vmx file from the virtual machine

Run the Virtual Network Editor. Disable automatic bridging. Specify the host's physical NIC to bridge to VMnet0.

Is 10.0.0.8 the correct IP/subnet you want for the guest OS?

You are receiving & transmitting packets on this network, are you sure that you do not have a firewall running in the guest?

Thanks guys, both your answers / suggestions made me locate the fault. Since I installed Hamachi (http://www.hamachi.cc/) the other day the VM has been bridging to that virtual NIC since it apparently become available before my real physical NIC.

So turning of automatic bridging and specify the host's physical NIC worked out just perfect Smiley Happy

Yes, once I saw the Hamachi adapter in your ipconfig, I suspected that was related to the issue. There have been several posts about conflicts with Hamachi. Glad it's working.
