Following a Shutting Down of my VM I lose previously set IE settings

I have created a VM with Windows Server 2008 R2. IE 8 is installed on the server. If I add Favorites to the Favorites Bar on IE 8, then shutdown the server by going to Start > Shutdown and then restart the server, the saved Favorites on the Favorites Bar are gone. Is there a VM Workstation option I need to set to save this information when shutting down?

unless you set the virtual disk to "Independent - Non Persistent" in the VM's settings (select the HDD and click the "Advanced" button) the changes should persist. If "Independent" is unchecked (the default) then it's most likely something in Windows itself.
