Fixing Snapshot Manager

One of my virtual machines (XP) had in Snapshot Manager

"XP Machine" -> Snapshot1 -> You are here.

I told it to delete Snapshot1 and I got an error that there was insufficient memory. However Snapshot1 has disapeared from the Snaphot manager i.e it now shows

"XP Machine" -> You are here.

but if I look on the disk I have Windows XP Professional-000002-cl1.vmdk (17GB) and Windows XP Professional-000002-cl1-000004.vmdk (8GB) so does that mean the snapshot wasn't deleted (the timestamp on the 00004 file is about 15min later than the other file) ?

If so, what's the best way forward ?

I had already read the FAQ, the only thing I could find was

Q. I want to commit/remove a snapshot, but the Snapshot Manager won't let me. Is there a workaround?

but that's not quite my case. The Snapshot doesn't even show anymore in Snapshot Manager so I don't know if it's safe to use this technique ?

The snapshot is considered deleted, but its corresponding delta disk wasn't consolidated with its child disk. (Snapshots use delta disks, but they're not the same, and it's sometimes normal for there to be disk files that don't correspond to any snapshots.)

The easiest thing to do is to clear up some disk space, take a new, temporary snapshot, and then delete it. This will retry disk consolidation and clean up any disk files that need it.

Unfortunately that didn't work.

I took a new snapshot, then tried to remove it, again it was removed from Snapshot manager, but gave the error message "Unable to clean up deleted files. The specified virtual disk needs repair"

This is the content of my vmsd file and now I have three vmdk files.

Restored from backup and deleted the snapshot and all worked fine this time. I've kept the old VM in case anyone wants to try a fix so this thread has a proper conclusion if anyone else has the same problem in the future.
