I'm 99.999% sure that this method will work. I've found a solution and described the procedure here: http://www.droidmantra.com/2013/01/fix-vmware-workstation-8-9-freeze-on.html
Please don't consider the external link as spam. It is something which worked brilliantly for me. So I posted the content in my blog although it's completely irrelevant to its topic and shared it here.

All the above link does is bring you to a download manager program to download. It is SPAM. The fix is:
Uncheck the CD/DVD Drive "Connected at power on" option.
Please see the thread located here for the fix: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/407985
Thanks a lot, unchecking the DVD drive connection helped me. This serous bug, if you don´t know the solution.
Thanks it worked also with me. I had never problems with my Fujitsu X9510 but with my new Fujitsu N532 is the problem solved thanks to this.
Unchecking the CD/DVD Drive "Connected at power on" option is the Fix. Thankyou.
