Failed to install Fedora guest on Workstation 7.1

Cannot install Fedora 17 or 16 (32-bit) on Workstation 7.1.6.

The ISO boots ok, but when it proceeds to the OS startup(?), a popup appers:

"The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. You will need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point."
and I can't get past this.

The host is Win7 SP1 x64 on i7-3770 machine. Other Linux (Centos 5) and Windows guests run fine on this setup

The relevant log snippet is below.

Any idea?

Thanks,

According to the VMware compatibilty guide for guests Fedora 16 & 17 32 bit are not supported by WS 7.1.4.  7.1.6 was not shown - at least I could lno see it  however tthe suported supported versions of WS for these    OS is WS 8 and 9.   My advice - upgrade to WS 8 or 9.
