Exception 0xc0000005

I just upgraded to VMware Workstation v8.0.0 build-471780 this morning.  I am trying to install (upgrade failed) VMware tools onto a Windows XP (SP2) x64 VM and keep getting the following erro

VMware Tools unrecoverable error: (vthread-3)

Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occured.

A core file is available in "C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\vmware-SYSTEM\vmtoolsd-984.dmp"......

I have attached it to this thread...

Forgot to mention, this is running on a Linux 64bit host.

Unfortunately, not.  I tried the steps at the bottom of that thread, but still get the same error.
