Domain Controller

Ok I have a windows 2003 server as my host and windows xp pro guest on Workstation 6. I'm trying to join the VM guest to the domain of the host but it keeps saying that it can't find the domain controller. I think I've found the root of the problem which is that the 2003 server can ping the VM and it gets a response but when you try to ping the server from the VM there's no reply which is most likely why the domain controller cannot be found. However, I cannot figure out why the guest cannot ping the server. The guest VM is on a WORKGROUP while the server is on it's on domain controller but I'm pinging the server by its computer name so that shouldn't be a reason why it won't communicate. I double checked the IP settings and they're both on the same network/gateway and subnet and there should be no reason why the guest cannot see the server.

Can someone please help me? I'd really appreciate it...I've been pulling my hair out over this issue.

Here's the ipconfig /all output of both computers just in case this would help diagnose the problem, and by the way they're using bridged networking if that helps any.

Please add the .vmx file from your guest and a screenshot of the network configuration of VMWorkstation (Edit > Virtual Network Editor... > Host Virtual Network Mapping).

Disable all firewalls on host and guest.

Have you tried to ping with IP addresses, as well?

AWo,

You know what...when you said check the firewalls I was thinking at first who the hell would forget to turn the firewalls off before asking this question and so I checked and the guest one was off and then I checked the host and it was on! I cannot believe I forgot to turn that thing off!!!! So I checked and it joined the domain just fine after turning it off! lol thanks man for the suggestion...I was already thinking about just giving both systems a fresh install thinking there was some problem in the software...as you can tell I've been up WAY to late working on this if I forgot the firewall!!!!

lol thanks man I appreciate it! Now I can sleep finally!
