Does workstation pro support higher than 1gb network connections?

bridged network, physical connection shows 2.5Gb, windows server 2022 vm only shows 1Gb. Does vmware workstation pro support higher than 1gb network connections for vm's?

Have you verified the network throughput?  The label is just that - a label.  All network traffic is performed by the host's CPU, not offloaded to an actual network card.

I suppose the guest os labeling the 2.5gb connection as 1gb is a separate issue, but performance wise:

EP1 Vmware workstation pro host 2.5Gb Nic

EP2 Guest vm

EP3 Hyper-V vm 10Gb Nic

file copy of ~8gb iso file

Host to 10Gb server:
EP3->EP1 ~250MB
EP1->EP3 ~260MB

Host to Guest:
EP1->EP2 ~200MB rate
EP2->EP1 ~180MB rate

Guest to 10Gb server:
EP2->EP3 ~140MB
EP3->EP2 ~180MB

Seems like a performance hit from host to guest, and a larger hit from 3rd party to host to guest. Is that to be expected or is there a configuration that could be modified? CPU on host is i9 12900k

You could try switching to the vmxnet3 adapter although you will get a performance hit and but likely will be better than the default.
Edit the vmx file and change the virtualdev from e1000/e1000e (the default depends on the guest OS) to vmxnet3

For example:

ethernet0.virtualDev="vmxnet3"
