Docking Station DVD Drive

I have a Lenovo X201, with the Lenovo X200 "Ultrabase" docking station.  I set my VM up to use the host's CD ROM device in my XP SP3 guest.  I cannot connect to the device.  It always says IDE device unavailable.

Thanks for any hints.

How do you setup the drive ?

Do NOT use "autodetect" - assign the correct driveletter

Hi Ulli,

We do have the drive set up as "autodetect" and there doesn't seem to be any way to change this. Deleting the device and adding it new does not allow any other option for CD/DVD. Was this something only available when the VM was first created?

Thanks for your reply.

setting the driveletter for a CD drive is done like this:

ide1:0.present = "true"
ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw"

ide1:0.filename = "E:"
ide1:0.startConnected = "TRUE"

or - when using the GUI

I don't get the option in the GUI to set the drive letter. The dropdown contains "autodetect" as my only choice.

Where do you enter the ide settings you reference below? In the .vmx file?

Thanks.
