Disable High DPI in Workstation and Player.

It seems to have no effect to check executable's property -> Compatibility -> Disable display scaling on high DPI settings. Workstation and Player always scale their main window according to the system DPI settings, unlike most other applications.

Can I disable this behaviour and make their windows appear at 100% DPI, even though the system's DPI is higher?

I also could really use a way to do this. My host is Windows 7. There is an option in Windows' compatibility tab for vmware.exe to disable high DPI display scaling but it doesn't do anything. I don't know why. I assume VMware is using some toolkit that has its own way of applying DPI. Since upgrading from Workstation 10 to 12 this DPI scaling has stolen a little bit of screen real estate from me, and I'd really like to get it back. Again the issue is the controls in the GUI on the host, nothing to do with the guest.

Likewise, I have this problem on Windows 10.

I have one 4K monitor as my main monitor, but I'm running the VMWare Workstation 12 Pro on another monitor without the DPI scaling turned on, but the GUI for the host is automatically scaled up as if it was on the 4K monitor. As such, the menus are too large. The only way I can get this to go back to normal is to set the scaling on the 4K monitor to 100%, and then restart.

I can't believe that this has been QA'ed to live up to the Marketing claims. VMware Workstation Features, Multiple OS, Run Linux on Windows | VMware United Kingdom

"Ready for High Resolution Displays

Workstation 12 Pro has been optimized to support high resolution 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) displays for Desktops and QHD+ (3200x1800) displays...

Workstation 12 Pro now supports multiple monitors on the host with different DPI settings..."

Like hell it does... I've just paid 150 euros for an upgrade from Workstation 11 on the basis of the above and I feel decidedly stung.

The guest system is Lilliputian on a 4k display (with no apparent way of scaling) (Even with my glasses as far to the end of my nose as they can go

On my other display a mere 1920x1080, the guest looks fine but host menus are now in Brobdingnag.

Any help gratefully accepted... either that or at least have the decency to supply free magnifying glasses.

VMware's claims of Workstation 12 being "ready for high resolution displays" are patently false and misleading.

High DPI displays are not usable at all except with Windows 8+ etc guests which are also running in high DPI mode, and even then the performance is lousy.

Low DPI VMs in Fusion scale beautifully on Retina Macs. Workstation 12.1's high DPI support isn't even sort-of close to where Fusion has been for a number of years now.

Are there any indications from VMware as to when Workstation will actually become usable on high DPI displays?
