DirectX 10 for 3D Application in Windows 7?

Is DirectX 10 supported in VMware Workstation 7.1 or any other version?

I keep getting errors in my 3D application that I am trying to run that only DirectX 9 is installed and the 3D application cannot be started. I know DirectX 10 is installed on the host Windows 7 operating system and the 3D application runs great in the host Windows 7 operating system.

Thanks, James

Hello James,

Welcome to the VMware community forums

No I'm afraid DirextX 10 isn't supported at the moment for any guest OS.

For workstation 7.1, the currently supported version is DirectX9 with Shader Model 3.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Wil for your answer. I was afraid I was going to be told that no version of VMware Workstation would support DirectX 10 and run my 3D application.

It would appear the VMware team has a major gap in functionality not being able to support at least DirectX 10. DirectX 9 is old technology.

DirectX 10 has been out for nearly 2 years and DirectX 11 has been released. Windows 7 is all about higher end graphics using DirectX 10 or above technology.

I won't be purchasing WMware Workstation 7.1. It can't run my application.
