De-spliting a virtual hard drive

I have a virtual machine which has the virtual hard drive split into 33 different files. How can I combine these into just one file? Or lacking that how can I rename the files?

If you want to change the hard disk type from split to monolithic, you need to use the command-line vmware-vdiskmanager utility.  I'd definitely recommend NOT doing it, however.  If you need to perform any disk utilities (shrink, defragment, resizing) you need to have a minimum hard disk free space equal to the max. size of the disk; if a split disk, then you need to have only a little more than 2 GB free.  Also, if you have a monolithic sparse disk, there is no separate disk descriptor text file, so if you get any corruption, it is next to impossible to recover.
