DNS forwarder issue using Workstation 6.5

I have three machines set up on a Team. (2) Windows 2003 Servers (Server1, Server11) and 1 XP client (XP1)

Network Settings for all three:

Server1, NAT VMnet8: 192.168.57.201 255.255.255.0 192.168.57.2

Server11, NAT VMNet8: 192.168.57.211 255.255.255.0 192.168.57.2

XP1, NAT VMNet8: 192.168.57.128 255.255.255.0 192.168.57.2

Server1 is the DNS Server as well so Primary DNS for all three Guests are 192.168.57.201

My problem is that the XP1 box can get out to the Internet even though I primary DNS is set to Server1 which is 192.168.57.201 and I haven't yet added any entries in the DNS Forwarder. In a physical network that XP machine isn't supposed to be able to access the Internet until I enter the DNS Forwarder information on the DNS Server1. Can someone tell me why that would be in this VM environment? VMnet8 info is set to 192.168.57.0/24 with a DHCP range of 192.168.57.128 - 254 and the Gateway IP address is 192.168.57.2. I am wanting to my DNS Server correctly in this environment and if I had set this up correctly the XP1 box should not be able to access the Internet until I enter my Forwarder info on Server1. Can somebody help me? ?:|

Thank you

Can you post "ipconfig /all" from the XP box?

Also I found out there is another issue. Both of the servers can ping each other. XP box can ping both servers. BUT Neither server can get a reply from the XP box. Here is the IPConfig /all for the two servers as well.

Server 1:

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Server1

Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : benandbrady.com

Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.57.2

Here is what happens when either Server attempts to ping the XP box:

All that looks fine and well configured.

Disable all firewalls on the guests while testing and try to ping again.

One thing I can think of is IPv6. Remove all IPv6 stuff from all adapters.

Thank you - turning off the firewall in XP resolved that problem. Any idea why the XP box can access the Internet even though I didn't enter anything in the DNS Forwarder? Thank you
