Copying a VM - new sid needed

Hi,

Where I work I've been copying and cloning VMs (XP and Win7) renaming them and adding them back into the domain quite a few times.  I need to get support to get someone with admin rights to log in while I rename the PC in the domain.  I've never had a problem but this time they are concerned we'll end up with duplicate SIDs.  Can anyone tell me if this is a real issue or whether VMWare (9) takes care of this (when it asks whether this is a moved or copied vm and I selected copied for example)?

Thanks

Hi,

When VMware ask you "This is a moved or copied VM" this action have no impact in your SID (SID concern your Guest OS). When you choice "moved" no change will be applicated to your vmx, but if you select "copied" for example a new mac address will generate. But it is only a change apply to your VM.

if you deploy a VM using a template, you can generate a new SID using the customization wizard.

Otherwise, you can download newsid.exe into your VM and execute it.

Julien
