I installed kali linux 2021 on my vmware workstation pro 16, and created a user as 'mayank'. The copy/paste functionality is working till now. Now I have switched to user 'root', changed its password and now I have logged out from 'mayank' and logged in as 'root'. Now the copy/paste functionality is not working.
Copy/paste, drag n drop is enable/checked from the options tab in the settings menu. Please help.
Can you check to see if VMware tools is running when logged in as the 'root' user?

What exactly worked for me?-
1. log in as root.
2. apt remove open-vm-tools-desktop open-vm-tools
3. apt install open-vm-tools-desktop open-vm-tools
4. restart the machine
5. bam! it worked
PS: my dumb moves are making a good streak
Legend, worked perfectly on MX Linux (Debian 11).
