In Workstaion 11 I made a ESXi 5.5 Lab with a Multiple File Disk. There are 226 .vmdk files now totoalling 143GB. Is there a way to convert this multi-file disk to a single file disk?
Thanks,
mux
Hello,
Although I did not try it ever. But for this job you can use Vmware Vdiskmanager utility. You can download it here:-

See the attachment at the bottom.
Thanks

Using the vmware-vdiskmanager.exe located at C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\ run the following:
vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -r OldDisk.vmdk -t 0 NewDiskSingle.vmdk
Hi
just curious ....
Several years I complained that VMware Workstation picks monolithic growing disks as the default for new VMs.
Would you please explain why you are not happy with the split growing format ?
Thanks Ulli
Vdiskmanager worked perfectly.
Thanks,

I have had nothing but problems with this one lab, mostly with suspending the guest. For whatever reason all my single file .vmdk labs run better with less problems.
