Connecting 2 Win 7 Ultimate VMs in a private network and with host

Hi,

I have tried to create a simple 2 VM virtual network with Workstation 10.

*Final goal is to create a virtual network of 5-10 VMs both chained and branched.

My Host: Win 7 Ultimate, Workstation 10, plenty of RAM, Comodo firewall with all VMWare, svchost, and system requests allowed.

My Guest VMs: Win 7 Ultimate, 2GB RAM each, no firewall or AV programs. Just bare OS and Firefox.

I have tried different ways and settings from online forums to do the following.

1) Connect VM1 to the Host with NAT (works).

2) Connect VM2 to the Host with NAT (works).

typing "Ipconfig /all" at the dos prompt shows the following

Tunnel adapter isatap.localdomain:

   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : localdomain

   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter

   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : censored

   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :

   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface

   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : censored

   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : ::

   NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled

Then;

3) Connect VM1 to the VM2 with separate HOST-ONLY private network (say VMnet2 with "Connect a host virtual adapter to this network" disabled). Fails.:smileyconfused:

What I tried;

Tried to create a home group between the 2 VMs, but the VM adapters are showing the "yellow triangle" and says "unidentified network".

It also says "no internet" but that is because they are not connected to the host. They both have the same subnet 192.168.197.x

Do I even need to create a home group? I just want to virtually connect the 2 VMs together using the virtual router VMnet2.

I can't even change the network type in both VMs (Home, work, public).

When I went to the dos command line in both VMs, and typed "ipconfig /all" to look at the status, I get;

C:\Users\Systems>ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

Tunnel adapter isatap.localdomain:

   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected:smileyconfused:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : localdomain

   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter

   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : censored

   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface:

   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected:smileyconfused:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :

   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface

   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : censored

   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No:smileyconfused:

   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

(This entire group is for ONE single VM's ipconfig. Both have basically the same result except for the IP address 4th number)

So whats happening? Why can't I connect the 2 VMs using VMnet2? They have the same subnet.

Tried disabling and enabling adapters, restarting workstation, removing and adding VMnets (all with VMs turned off), restarting windows etc.

Why does it say "NO DCHP enabled" when I have it enabled in the Workstation Network editor?

I censored some of the Mac addresses.

Finally I want to connect VM1 to the HOST to get internet access, then add a second virtual adapter to VM1 to connect in a private network with VM2 and give VM2 internet access through VM1 (tired enabling internet connection sharing in VM1, how exactly do you do that? Just tick the box in properties right?):smileyhappy:.

I also heard of PFsense. What is that?Smiley Sad

Also how to go about achieving my final goal to create a virtual network of 5-10 VMs, both chained and branched?:smileygrin:

Thanks for any help.Heart
