[Clone Link] - Update MASTER Vmware and propagate it to Linked vmware

Dear all,

I have started in these days to crete my Lab using the Clone link Functionality from the Workstation.

I have done :

1- Create A snapshot of my master image

2- Create a new vmware using the above snapshot.

Now i ms have release a few OS update.

I would like to install it on the MASTER image and propagate it to the Linked vmware .

How i can do it ?

ps.

i use only Vmware Workstation

Hi Luca

As far as I know, once you create a virtual machine using a linked clone that virtual machine from that point becomes independant in terms of configuration changes updates etc.

Therefore you are not able to update the parent and have it propagate to the child VM's they should be treated as seperate machines.

Check out pace 220 of the configuration guide,

I hope this helps

changing a parent vmdk will corrupt any children - there is no way to do that safely.

This applies to linked clones and other snapshots

I wish it was easy. I have to deploy 64 cloned VM's every month (all done via a script). Persisting application settings can get quite tricky Smiley Happy
