It's only been 3 years since I asked this question, but I'm still looking for a solution.

What are 3 years compared to the age of the Earth (~4.54 billion years) Smiley Wink

Regarding your initial question. No, there's still no option to define custom defaults. The only way is to create and use your own template VMs.

That's a work around, not a solution. When is this going to get fixed?

setting "new VM defaults" is not even implemented - so it can not be fixed.

Use the suggestions forum to make a feature-request

Thanks for your answer, but it is not possible to use a templete in this case.

The HP deployment software can't be changed.

I must create a feature request. 😞
