CentOS 7 ~ Installing workstation 11 or 12 ..

Hi,

I have just updated my Linux desktop from CentOS 6.6 to CentOS 7 and when i try and reinstall Workstation I get stuck when i try and start the software it fails

I have tried runing this for thefirst time as root or as a user with sudo rights i get the same results ..

i asks to update the kernel modules ..

then fails to update them as it can't stop the service

when I look in the log file ..

2015-09-08T13:44:11.297+01:00| vthread-4| I125+ Failed to execute child process "/etc/rc.d/init.d/vmware" (No such file or directory)

and yes that file is not there ???

the errors in the background when I start it ..

are I think unrelated ..

uname -a

Linux pukeko 3.10.0-229.11.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Aug 6 01:06:18 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

cat /etc/redhat-release

CentOS Linux release 7.1.1503 (Core)

anyone got any ideas ? I have tried everything and cant seem to get it to install ..

HI, I had similar problem (regarding to my poor memory and reading your logs) a couple of years ago.

the fix was insanely simple ..

ln -s /etc/init.d/vmware /etc/rc.d/init.d/vmware

it was looking for the service in the wrong place ..

Anantharam Jayaram from VMware tech support worked

though it with me and we had it fixed in 15 miuntes ..
