Cannot find 64 bit windows xp install for workstation

Where on the VMWare site is the 64 bit VM Workstation install for Windows XP Pro 64 bit?

There isn't any. The UI is still 32-bit... the device drivers and services are 64-bit, and are included in the Windows installation package.

The statement "The UI is still 32-bit... the device drivers and services are 64-bit, and are included in the Windows installation package" is confusing and not entirely correct because most of the vmware host services are still 32-bit:

  • vmware.exe *32

  • vmnet.exe *32

  • vmnetdhcp.exe *32

  • vmwre-authd.exe *32

  • vmware-tray.exe *.32

The only 64bit process is the process running the client vms:

vmware-vmx.exe

Does anyone know if there are plans to support 64bit versions of the host services anytime in the near future?

There is no need to run 64-bit versions of the other host processes. Only the VMX process is performance-critical, and the only reason to run 64-bit is the overhead of WoW64.

Building the other apps for 64-bit serves only to increase QA's work and increase the size of the download.
