I recently copied my VM Workstation 9 environments from my physical machine's C; drive over to a partition on an external hardrive. I renamed the VM machines to differentiate them from the one on the physical C: Drive.
Now I am unable to power on the VM on the external drive. I get a dialog stating that the zdrive.vdmk file cannot be found on the system and cannot be opened, even though the file is present in the configuration directory.
check the vmx-file - the vmdks may be configured with absolute paths
What exactly am I checking for?
vmdks , isoßfiles or floppy-images have an entry like
ide0:0.filename = "name.vmdk"
thats a relative path ß a VM where the paths are configured like this can be moved.
ide0:0.filename = C:\aunt-dorothies-favorite-sausage\noodles\vms\name.vmdk"
VMs with entries like that can not be moved without adjusting the paths
