Can't **update** files on the host

VMWare 16.2.3 build-19376536

Host is Win 10 Pro

VM is Win 7 Pro

There is a Synology  box, the host has a drive mapped to it.  That drive is made available to the virtual machine.

The virtual machine is capable of creating a file and writing to it, but it's incapable of modifying an existing file.  The host has no problem updating and deleting the very files that the virtual machine can't so whatever is going on appears to be with the virtual machine.

I had no idea it was even possible to have such permissions, let alone how this could have come about.  What should I be looking for?!

  • How is the drive mapped to the guest OS?
  • How are permissions configured on the Synology drive/share?

Unless that's how the drive is already mapped to the guest OS, consider mapping the Synology share directly from in the guest.
