Can't uninstall Workstation 12, can't upgrade Windows - stuck.

Windows 10 wants to update, but it can't. It is stuck on the error "_P0_VMware Workstation Pro (No-Op)"

I've uninstalled VMware Workstation Pro 12.5.9 and VMware Player 12.5.9  in 3 ways:

(a) via regular Windows uninstall

(b) by using the 12.5.9 installer with /clean

(c) by cleaning out every detail of the registry etc according to https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1308.

But I am still stuck with the same error. What to do??

In system32 there were a lot of "vm" related entries in  that are not mentioned in 1308 . See attachment for a few of these, but I'm only allowed one attachment so I can't upload the rest of the filenames as they are split over several screens  and I can't think of any  way to collect the names in one file.

I carefully only deleted system32 files mentioned in 1308; should I delete everything starting vm?

The original installation was tangled and knotted. I only wanted VMware player, but somehow got both Workstation Pro and some third utility program who name I sadly do not recall. These all showed in the Winkey program list, but the only one to appear in the Settings>uninstall list was Workstation Pro.

What to do? Reinstall Windows????

Many thanks!

vmbuspipe.dll and vmbus.sys are part of Windows (Hyper-V), so leave them alone; vmx86_… likely is part of VMWare, and since it's in the DRVSTORE subdirectory, it should be safe to delete.
