Can't ping host names between guests

I'm struggling with DNS resolution between clients (guests). I'm using NAT on each client. Nslookup says 192.168.80.2 on both guest vm's. However, when I try to ping my Win2008 server (guest) from my Win7 (guest) it resolves to my host machines 172.27 address. The Win2008 server is able to resolve the Win7 client ok when I ping it. But I can't go the other way.

Under Edit|Virtual Network Editor I have VMnet0 Bridged and VMnet8 using NAT. For various reasons I don't want my clients using bridged.

I can get everything to work ok if I edit my hosts file on the host. This is a pain since I'm using DHCP. I transfer these images to other machines so I would like to find a solution that doesn't require changing the hosts.

I found some threads with similar issues under VMWare Fusion. I don't find a resolution in those threads.

I have various colleagues with the same issue so I know it's not specific just to my machine. I'm running VMWare 7 but I had the problem in 6.5 as well.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

You might start by posting the results from ipconfig/all on host and guests.

What roles are installed on the 2008 Server?

What is your host system?
