Hi all,
Hoping someone can help with this issue, here is my basic VM setup so far:
- Windows 2012 ADDS, DHCP, DNS server
- Windows XP client
Both guests are using the VMNet1 Host-only network and DHCP is disabled through workstation.
The problem I'm having is that my Windows XP machine is unable to obtain a DHCP address from the 2012 Server and it just comes back with the 169.x link-local address. If I configure my Windows XP machine with a static address on the same subnet both machines are able to communicate without issue, so I'm not quite sure where I'm going wrong. Wireshark shows the DHCPDiscover packet being broadcast, but nothing is being returned.
Do these adapters have some limits the broadcast packets they can process? Or am I really missing something here?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Have you checked the configuration of your Windows Server 2012 DHCP server ? The scope is active ? The server is authorized ?

Thanks for your reply - you were correct, I had not authorized the DHCP server.
Sorry, new to Windows 2012, I'd never before had to authorize a DHCP server that was also a Domain Controller.
Thank you.
