I have Windows XP SP1 installed on VMware Workstation 12, running IE6. Whenever I open Internet Explorer it brings me to the msn.com homepage, and everything works fine, I can even click on links/news articles as long as they stay on msn.com. As soon as I try to connect to any other website, however, I get a "The page cannot be displayed" error. I have VMware Tools installed, and my network settings are on bridged connection. Any idea why this might be happening?
have you allready tried to resolv some addresses like www.google.com? do you recieve a ip from your network?
what about proxies in your environment?
I already tried google.com, gave the same error message.
I don't know what you mean by receiving an IP from my network; do you mean whether my guest machine is getting a unique IP address?
I do not use proxies on my host machine, and the guest is a fresh install, so there should be no proxies there.
Try a browser that actually supports XP, such as Chrome.
IE6 is dead!
Does your vm has recieved a ip from the dhcp server in your network?
Try to type nslookup google.com in the cmd. Maybe you have allready problems resolving the addresses...
As royal said, try to install another browser and try with them.
Btw. It is recommended to install at least sp3 for windows xp...
The problem is the browser. I know because I've been through this.
Oh and it's Royce, not royal.
