Can't connect to VM's in workstation when I VPN onto there network?

I have a windows 8 machine running VMware workstation 9 on my home network. On workstation, I am running a windows server 2012 VM. From my windows 8 machine, I can ping and RDP into the VM no problem. However, when I VPN into my home network I can't ping or RDP into my workstation VM. I can see and ping all of the other devices on my network, including other windows laptops, mobile phones, iPads, etc. except for that VM. I think it has to do with the network settings in workstation, but I can't seem to figure out what I would need to change to get this to work. I currently have it set to Bridged, with the replicate physical network connection state checkbox enabled. I have tried all of the possible configurations that I can see for the network adapter, but nothing seems to work (though setting it to NAT makes it so I can't even ping the VM from my windows 8 machine on the network).

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this, and how to get around it?
