Can't access guest

Hello,

I have VM6.

Host: XP Pro SP3, Guest: XP Media Center Edition (2005)

The guest virtual was created using VMWare converter from a physical machine. I am wondering if this could be part of the problem as I've never had any issues with networking virtuals (experienced VMWare user).

What I cannot do:

  • Ping the Guest from either the Host, or from other computers on the LAN. (either by hostname or IP Address - name resolution is not the problem)

  • VNC into the Guest either from the Host, or from other computers on the LAN (tried BOTH VMWare's built-in VNC server, and UltraVNC.)

  • Access shares

What I CAN do:

  • Remote Desktop Connection into Guest (from Host and LAN)

  • Remote into Guest via a PDA Server application using port 83.

The Guest virtual has no problem pinging all machines on the LAN, and can access the Internet.

Guest network is Bridged, but get same results if I try NAT and Host-only.

Already confirmed firewalls (both HOST and GUEST) are completely disabled.

Both HOST and GUEST are on the same Workgroup, same IP subnet.

Guest can receive an IP address from LAN router if DHCP is enabled. Also tried static IP configuration

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

  • Mike.

Disable your guest firewall.

You missed that in the message: "Already confirmed firewalls (both HOST and GUEST) are completely disabled".
