Can not type the password in windows 10 logon screen

I converted my physical machine which is windows 10 pro to virtual machine using standalone converter. Now when I start the Vmachine and the logon screen appears i can use only the mouse. I can not type anything in the pasword box. Also the caps lock does not respond or the num lock. I can not type anything so it is impossible to enter in the virtual machine. Any idea why that happens? Thank you very much in advance

Hi,

In the access screen at the bottom right, with the mouse press the key called "Ease of Access" press and then select "On-Key Keyborad" the virtual keyboard appears. You can type the password from that keyboard. After logging in to Windows 10, install the vmware tools.

Dear Alessandro

thank you for your prompt answer following your suggestion I managed to enter windows and i installed Vmware tools but still no response from the keyboard. For example I have the caps lock on in the host machine and when i move the cursor inside the virtual machine caps lock turns off. Same thing with num lock and no matter which key i press nothing appears on the screen. The mouse pointer on the other hand works with no problem. Any suggestion?

Hi,

What version do you have of windows 10 pro? (1903 or 1909)

What version of ESXi?

in addition

Now that you enter windows 10, remove the keyboard drivers from the "Device Manager". At the next restart the device is detected and the correct vmware drivers are reinstalled.

Hi,

This is pretty much always due to people converting a laptop from physical to virtual without removing the synaptic drivers.

The synaptic drivers and software interfere with VMware's virtual keyboard, so in order to get your keyboard working you have to uninstall any synaptic drivers and support software.

Then reboot your virtual machine.

Good luck!
