Build a VM using a hard drive from an older PC

I have a physical drive that has WinXP on it and is bootable.  This drive supports an older scanner that has all the drivers and it's software is already registered to work.  Unfortunately, the company no longer supports this device and I can't get the scanner working anymore because registration fails..  Is it possible to create a VM using this physical drive to boot from??

Thanks for any info!

Hello

yes that is possible and you can pick from several variants.

Do you want to keep the old harddisk or do you prefer to use a diskimage ?

Using a diskimage is more convenient - but you need enough free disk space.

Using old style harddisks in a modern computer can produce additional problems  and can seriously impact the overall performance.

Yes!  For now I want to be able to boot off of the old hard drive and once the VM is up and running, create a duplicate of it on a virtual drive.  Do you know how to do?
