I assume you use a bridged vNIC, now, so the guest should get a DHCP address from the same DHCP server the host get its address from.
What kind of DHCP server is it? Do you use one integrated in a DSL modem? Are there enough addresses free/available? Any restrictions applied (MAC address,...)
Assign the guest a valid static IP address and see if you can communicate at all (ping the host, ping the DHCP server).
Check that the bridged vNIC (= VMnet0) is bridged to the correct physical NIC. Is this a wireless one?
