Booting from USB?

Hi! I'm running VMware Workstation 6.5.1 on Windows XP host.

I'm wondering if any progress has been made, regarding the well-known limitation of VMware's BIOS not recognizing USB devices?

Is there a workaround for this deficiency?

I would love to be able to boot a VMware guest from a USB device.

Thanks!

Josh

No progress so far ...

Anyway - you can boot some guests via USB by using the USB as physical disk.

I use this for example to boot BartPE from USB-disks or sticks.

Bit late response, but I use http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html#runflp to have the virtual machines boot from USB.

It's a bootmanager that comes as CDROM ISO, floppy image or as harddisk install. With it you can boot from a bootable USB drive. I am using this to test my Windows XP installation source while running it from a VoyagerGT USB stick.

Just link the floppy image to the virtual floppydive, boot from that, hook up you're USB stick, select USB in the menu, and then wait Smiley Happy
