Boot existing WinXP installation via IDE with "VMware Workstation for Win"?

Hi,

my first post and hopefully not a "has been answered amillionoftimes" question:

I know that Windows version of VMWare allows you to use actual disk partition as its disk (via the "IDE Option"), but I don’t know if it can use existing installations on that partition. Is that possible?

Background: I to have a laptop with two harddrives, each with an XP installation. One installation is for OFFICEWORK (eMail, docs etc.) and the other is for DEMOS (for demonstrating our software solutions beeing installed into this XP system).

When I work within OFFICEWORK, I frequently need to boot the DEMOS system, i.e. to do specific customizing/parametrization or updates. Building a vmware image via converter does not really solve the issue because I definitely need the possibility to natively boot the DEMOS system.

Thanks in advance for your hints.

so short
