Auto backup system

Hi All,

I need to setup some kind of auto backup system that will allow me to load a backup copy of a virtual machine on a new host if the old host were to go down. I was thinking of creating an initial clone of the vm, set that aside on a separate hard drive, and then keep periodic backups of snapshots generated by the initial vm while it is running. And, if the host system with the original vm on its internal hard drive were to fail, I'd have the clone and the snapshots ready to go to run on a new host machine. Now, my question is, is it possible to load snapshots from the clone when they're originating from the original vm? If this is not possible, is there another way to setup a backup system like this using VMware Workstation?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

I'm not sure if you can update a clone by snapshots from the original system. I don't think that this is working 7888_7888.gif .

When you're able to shut the guest down you could create a clone on a regular basis.

What about having the backup guest online, as well and doing a robocopy sync?
