Audio distorted in Windows Vista VM

Hello,

I have a problem with the sound on a Windows Vista virtual machine.

The sound sizzles or crackles and it is not clear.

I found this article: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2012007
I followed the proposed method.
It corrects the sound a bit, but the problem persists.
As a result, the sound is not very pleasant to hear.

If someone knows how to fix the problem, I'm very interested.

thank you👍

Finally I deleted a line in the configuration file
"sound.virtualDev = "hdaudio"

This seems to have fixed the problem.
Sometimes the problem comes back but I think it's because of the lag of the virtual machine.

Thanks for your help. If the solution doesn't work anymore I will come back to you.

Hi,

Try removing the sound device and adding it back.

You can make a snapshot before doing this so that you can roll back if it doesn't help.

The best result I've had so far is to set the format in Speakers->Advanced to 24bit 192,000 with the HD Audio driver. This mostly eliminates the issue.

Using the Vmware Audio driver instead of the default HD Audio driver or switching to es1371 didn't change much.

The audio appears to work fine in Windows 10. I haven't bothered to go through all the Windows versions  yet and check.

Hi,

Alright, in that case.. if that didn't help, have a look here:
