I'm attempting to use my in-line network tap with a VM. I have the host off the tap and I have verified that the host is receiving traffic. I moved away from using the on-board NIC (as I understand this is difficult to do) and am now using an Ethernet-to-USB adapter in hopes I can get the VM to recognize and use this for the inbound traffic on the suggestion of some Red Teamers I know.
I'm using the Security Onion VM and, once in the guest, I am using:
VM -> Removable Devices -> (switching USB device from host to guest)
My guest recognizes the USB device, but I still can't seem to get traffic to the VM. To troubleshoot, I moved the system from the tap to my switch (to test normal Internet connectivity), but that didn't work either.
Open to suggestions or tips. Let me know if anyone has any follow-on questions. Thanks!
