Been running VMware Workstation Pro on my Dell P5500 (64GB, 2TB, 12CPU) Ubuntu 20.4.3 LTS (host - fully updated) for quite a while, all running fine before, but just after upgrading to 16.2.1 build-18811642, I am experiencing a pretty inconvenient typing lag for ALL my linux virtual machines (Ubuntu, Centos, Fedora). Windows VMs seem fine.
I am thinking it has to be something with the upgrade...because nothing else has changed on my computer before it started to happen and I got tons free space on disk and RAM.
Even newly created Linux VMS have the typing lag. No other signs of anything bad, just huge typing lags.
Anyone else having similar issues?
Hi,
You're not alone, there might be a few reasons, apparently all related to the GPU.
See this thread (and the other posts it links towards)

Yes. Came here to search this issue. After about 10 minutes or so, I get terrible typing lag, window movement lag, etc. It seems that my Linux VMs are most affected -- worst performance is on KDE / arch. Gnome / Fedora 35 isn't so bad. I also created a brand new VM just to test and the performance is still lousy.
It seems most of the others from the link Wila shared had some success turning off the 3D Graphics on their VMs.
I went the other route and just uninstalled 16.2 and just re-installed 16.1.2 as I was getting a pretty long wait time "connecting" every time I started a VM with 16.2 also.
Just:
1. un-install:
sudo vmware-installer -u vmware-workstation
(said no to keeping configuration)
2. re-install - and after my old config was all there anyway
I was restored to all my old configuration in a couple minutes and working fine again.
Was able to resolve the issue by downgrading my host drivers to Nvidia Studio 472.47 as there is a known issue in the most recent GR drivers. Per the NVIDIA forums, there should be a fix out toward the end of the month.
