Any updates id the vms file is locked ?

I have users that are using VMware Player to connect to their Windows 7 VM and i would like to know if i lock the vmx file, does the VM will still receive the update for the antivirus and the Windows updates ?

Umm without the proper context your question is ambiguous as best.

What do you mean by "locking the vmx"?

Where is your VM running is it running on a vSphere host?

Whatever the case.. it has nothing to do with the ability of a guest to update their antivirus or windows updates as that data is all stored in the vmdk files.
