Hi, I am aware that XP Media Center Edition 2005 is not a supported host for VMware Workstation, but are there any known problems with installing it on this OS?
Unfortunately this is the only host OS I have available, and I would rather not take the risk of installing Workstation if there are known problems.
Many thanks in advance, Bill
others have successfully run VM W/S on XP Media center 2005 and since XP Media Center Edition 2005 is a superset of Windows xp itself, it should not cause any troubles unless your hardware is specific (for example low power via cpus cause issues)
what's your hardware specs ?
Thanks for your reply. My hardware is Pentium 4 (3.4GHz), 1GB RAM, 400GB main HDD.
I am wary because I read a post that said VMplayer wouldn't successfully install on MCE 2005.
Also, although MCE is supposed to be a superset of XP Pro, applications such as Zone Alarm Internet Security, which works fine on XP Pro, freezes on MCE 2005.
I have become quite cautious about apps that aren't specifically stated as being suitable for MCE.
If anybody has had good or bad experiences with installing VMware Workstation on MCE 2005, I would love to hear from you. Thanks!
I have WS6 on MCE2005 for some months now. (At least 3, I can't remember exactly when.) My hardware specs are similar to yours: 3.4 P4EE, 2.5GB RAM, ATI x1650, C:80GB, D:320GB, E:250GB. (D: & E: have my VMs.) I don't have a tuner card on this machine so I don't know of any problems there, but otherwise, this is my main PC that I use daily and I haven't had any problems with WS6 on MCE2005. The only real problem I have is not enough RAM to run more simultaneous VMs.
Thanks so much. This gives me confidence to get a copy of Workstation and install it.
If anybody has encountered any problems, please do post - also if you too have had a good outcome.
