Adding VMWare tools and enabling copy/paste to a VM already running?

Hi:

I have an Ubuntu VM that is currently running and it seems non-trivial at this point to add VMWare tools and enable copy/paste between the host computer and the VM.

For copy/paste, I go to "preferences/input," and I definitely have everything checked in in terms of grabbing input.

For VMWare tools, I get this "The virtual machine needs to have a virtual CD/DVD device to install VMware Tools." I suppose this means I add a virtual CD/DVD from "settings" but I am not sure what I should be pointing to for an ISO image.

Anyone have any suggestions for me?

thanks,

Max

Go to the VM tab and dropdown to Install VMware Tools.  Follow the instructions.  End of story

Yes you need to add the CD/DVD to the Virtual Machine and once done you can then try installing VMware Tools and it should automatically assign the linux.iso file to the CD/DVD and then to install VMware Tools in a Linux VM follow the direction in the Help File.

BTW You didn't say what your Host OS and version was or what version of Ubuntu or version of VMware Workstation and in some cases you may need to apply a third party patch to get all functionality of VMware Tools to work properly! Smiley Wink

Right. It's CentOS 6.2, but I think I've got the idea and I will just look for an ISO and/or patch and mount/run from that. I get it's a pretty obvious process now, so apologies for almost "thinking out loud" and then figuring it out. Not trying to waste anyone's time!

You still haven't given complete information so there is nothing more to say until you do! Smiley Wink
