Accessing sound card in ms-dos mode

Hi, I'm certain you've seen this question before but I couldn't figure this out. I have some older games I like to play (Doom, Quake, etc...) that require manual setup of the sound card in ms-dos.

Does anyone know how I can accomplish this?

I tried the sound blaster setup but it couldn't find the sound card so - EPIC FAIL!

I would suggest asking in one of the more visited general forums, rather then in this region specific forum, you stand a better chance of finding someone who has done this.
