This is a fresh install of VMware Workstation 6.5.
I tried creating a virtual machine, I'm not sure if it worked because I never received any sort of prompt that says it has been completed. However, the folder that I specified does contain some files/folders relating to VMware, so I know it at least did something.
When I try to open a new virtual machine, I click on "Open Existing VM or Team" then select the new VM I created by navigating to the folder, and selecting the .vmx file.
After I click open, I wait a long time (10 minutes), and nothing happens. I click the X on the VMware Workstation program to close it, and it brings up a "VMware Workstation uinrecoverable error: (vmui)
I have disabled my AV/FW and had no luck.
I've attached a screenshot of the error message, as well as the log file.

Any help here? I really would like to get this program working...
Does this happen with all VMs? Does it happen if you create a new VM?
For the VM that you are trying to open, does deleting the .lck files in its directory first help?
"Does this happen with all VMs?"
- Yes
"Does it happen if you create a new VM?"
- No, nothing happens when I create a new VM, it only makes the folder in the location I specified as well as a couple files, it adds up to about 2MB total for the file size of the folder it created.
"For the VM that you are trying to open, does deleting the .lck files in its directory first help?"
- Just tried, nope.
Thanks for the help
Any suggestions?
can you run the VM you created in VMplayer ?
Just run vmplayer.exe and point it to the *.vmx file in the directory that is now 2Mb large

do you know the tool depends.exe ?
Next I would run depends.exe and open vmware.exe with it - it will probably show what is missing

Not familiar with depends.exe, have a place for me to download it?
Try here: http://www.dependencywalker.com/
Says it couldnt find the file DWMAPI.DLL
"dwmapi.dll is a Window Manager API from Microsoft Corporation belonging to Microsoft® Windows® Vista"
http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/dwmapi/
I don't run Vista, I'm on XP.
I've attached the DWI file: http://www.dependencywalker.com/
Hmmm - strange results ....
sorry - this is beyond me ....
do you have an app running named fixscanner.exe ?

No I do not. I also checked my process list to see if that was listed, and it did not come up.
Any other suggestions?
I'm out of ideas here. If I can't get help from the community, I think I may just give up on VMWare. I've searched online for hours regarding this problem, and have not found a single solution.
PLEASE save me from using Microsoft Virtual PC!
Sorry it seems so bizarre. I'm running XP Pro SP3, with Comodo's Internet Security (latest firewall+av together), most up to date version, and Workstation 6.5.1. Never seen any such issues as this. Have you tried uninstalling the VMware stuff, cleaning the registry, and reinstalling them? Also, patch Windows with all the latest updates?
I'm still on SP3, scared to upgrade from SP2.
I have uninstalled VMWare, but I have not cleaned out the registry. Any guides for cleaning out the VMWare registry entries?
