I am running VMware 6.5.3 on Windows Vista 64-bit.
Vista reports I am running 2 64-bit Os but VMware report that the CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode.
So if my BIOS does not have an option for enabling Vt ... I am SOL? Any tricks out there to bypass this nonsense?
Thank you
John
Forget it, you don't have VT: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=36547

Hello MoriSept,
Intel-VT is needs to be supported and enabled in the BIOS to run 64-bit guests.
Don't forget to mark this answer "correct" or "helpful" if you found it useful (you'll get points too).

Is that an assumption or do you know it has no VT? Which processor do you use? If you have VT and if you're going to enable it, cold boot your system.

You need to have Intel VT or an appropriate AMD processor to run 64 bit guests under any VMware product. That is technically required. Not for paravirtualization reasons, as this is not related to 32 or 64 bit, but due to memory management requirements.

Hi there,
If it has a VT option, it is well hidden in the BIOS setup. I cant find it.
The proc is an Intel core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 2.33 Mhz. Desktop is a HP and I uploaded what seems to be the latest BIOS update for it.
I will ask HP if it is possible to have a BIOS that would support VT for this thing.
Thank you
John

I'm not much help but you could buy a refurbished HP xw8600. Those come with Intel Xeon 5400 series processors and those do support Intel VT (you'll need to turn it on in the BIOS). Check ebay for those as the HP Business Outlet once has one in stock. You could also get a refurbished HP z600 or z800 worstation. Those come with 5500 series Xeon processors and are available from the HPBO:
Hi,
thank you anyway. I have decided to get the Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9300 (6M Cache, 2.50 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) for that computer. It advertises support for VT. HP tech is telling me that I wont need a new BIOS to turn on VT support? Hopefully for him he is right
