100% CPU Usage from vmware-vmx.exe

I am running VMware 5.5.4 on Windows XP Professional SP2, and i have searched the forums looking for an answer. It's stumped me, and i don't know what else to do. I have reinstalled VMware, and it still does the same thing.

When i start a VM, no matter what it is, right after the BIOS, it goes up to 100% CPU Usage on the host machine. I don't remember it doing this before.

Does it stay at 100% or does it just peak to 100% for a little while?

And what's the CPU utilization within the guest?
